About SBSA

Introduction

SBSA is a not-for-profit association serving individuals who are blind, visually impaired and may have additional disabilities. SBSA also supports their families or care givers and other volunteers needed to support and facilitate their participation in sports. SBSA supports the concepts advocated by the Canadian Sport for Life Association. SBSA is committed to the development of athletes from introductory participants to provincial, national and international competitors.

SBSA was founded in 1978. We are a volunteer, not-for-profit organization that has had athletes and coaches and officials compete and represent Saskatchewan and Canada in national and international events.

We serve people who are blind and partially sighted.  SBSA is committed to continuing to develop and deliver sport options for its members and to advocate for the benefits of its members participating in sport.

We are the bridge to athlete’s involvement in sport. We will collaborate with sport governing bodies to adapt sports and facilitate the inclusion of blind and partially sighted persons. We are dedicated to promoting and creating opportunities. We promote sport for people of all ages and levels of skill.  We develop athletes from grassroots to excellence.

The SBSA endorses and adopts the Values from the Canadian Sport Policy. Those Values being:

  • Fun

  • Safety

  • Excellence

  • Commitment

  • Personal Development

  • Inclusion and Accessibility

  • Respect, Fair Play and Ethical Behavior

The SBSA adopts the seven Core Principles from Canadian Sport Policy and will strive to follow these principles in its operations
